It gets better…

Today, there was something to see: The first two blueReaders came from the casting! And they look beautiful! Over the weekend, the first 6 blueReaders will be created this week and probably next week 12 more…

So only the case for the charger is missing…

After the very crushing results so far I had hardly hope to find a nice solution, but as always it got better…

You might remember:Not what I want ship to you in any way, let alone declare something like this a prototype. Even the blueReader lets sadly hang out the antenna…

Changed forms led to better results…But still not what I hoped for…

Today I have at least for the bottom of the case finally something which is very close to what I would like to have: Now I’m waiting for the pressure for the top and the improvements on the bottom. Maybe I will finally get to something this weekend!

Insights with outlooks from the chaos…

A few days ago, everything started quite harmless with the first prototypes for the case of the charging system:Actually, we thought at all points of any number of problems just not with the charging system…Some iterations later I thought I found a suitable design. In the meantime, all the stuff for the casting of housings and also for the shipping of the finished devices had arrived… On the Internet, everything looked so simple…Put the printed design into a container, pour with silicone…bake a while at 50°C…and get a mold for casting…

Ouch, I forgot the holes for pouring and venting of the resin…Lets do it again…And finally fill it with resin…And I even had something left to experiment with the colors…

90 minutes later it was supposed to get easily out of the form…Not quiet convincing… Anyways, it was the first try… Many attempts, or nearly 200 Euro, or 5 days, later, a pile of plastic and silicone junk is all whats left, along with a broken 3D printer and lots of frustration…

One last chance… 3D Printer repaired and upgraded, however only silicone for one last attempt left…
Next attempt with new design…
new molds…
And the long wait for the resin to harden…

(unfortunately) it remains exciting, however we have learned a lot, again… 🙂

Prototyping hell…

… after the charging system basically works, it needs a cover …

  • should look nice
  • should be easy to manufacture
  • should help to place the blueReader exactly, but easily

The first design, then the 3D-printing started…

Does not look like I had it in mind…

Next try…

And my desk slowly fills with printed parts:

But the final design for the “blueReader wireless Charger” has been found:

Topic finished (just needs pretty printing and preping for casting now, however my casting material is still with the postal company) 🙂

Within the next days, my work space will become more and more a warehouse…

Packaging, cartons, stickers, foils, bags and USB cables are on the way for the first 100 Devices!

The countdown ticks…

Finally, here are the newest information about the blueReader:

  1. We are working on the final details of the production…
    1. The colors have finally arrived:You can choose between beige/skin color, blue, green, red, black or natura/transparent for your Device!
    2. The charging electronics is in production, maybe I have the first charger tomorrow and can show you how it looks and works…
    3. We are diligent in improving the design in order to make a simple and safe production possible: Casting trial in an open-top silicone mold, unfortunately not the desired result, as the silicone bulges at the edges. In addition, too little skin color pigment 🙂New form refinements, based on the first attempts …
Evolution of forms and materials used 🙂
    4. Also the charger will be available in different colors, however, as usual the casting stuff is stuck somewhere… Hopefully I can also show first versions of the final charger in the coming days and what colors will be available 🙂
  2. So far there was unfortunately no feedback on the design :/ Before the publication of the dimension data and 123Design, as well as openSCAD files, there were regular commentsregarding the design.. Perhaps it was because of the tools I used… So here’s the current design, this time as a Fusion 360 project: Link to Fusion 360 Projekt

In addition to the sketches for the board, the battery and antenna, and the current design and the build platform required for the assembly is also contained in the Project:
  3. How can you then choose which color the blueReader should have and which color the charger? Once we have produced the first units, all supporters will receive a coupon code and a link. On the webpage you can verify and correct your shipping data (Not that anything has been wrongly taken from Startnext) and choose your Device(s)!

I hope to provide new information soon!
